About UHN

CEO's Message

University Health Network (UHN), consisting of Toronto General, Toronto Western and Princess Margaret Hospital, is a recognized leader in patient care, research and education. As one of Canada's largest research hospitals, we have a proud history of achieving many "world firsts" including discovering stem cells, pioneering deep brain simulator to treat patients with depression, performing the world's first single and double-lung transplant and inventing the Cobalt machine which was the technology that allowed modern radiation therapy to develop. We are continually breaking new ground in research and treatment so we can enhance our patients'experience and outcomes.

As the President and CEO of such an outstanding health care organization, I am inspired by the compassion, talent and dedication to our patients that's demonstrated by our physicians, staff, students, researchers and volunteers. Driven by our commitment to patient-centered care, we are making a very real difference in improving the lives of the more than a million patients we serve each year.

For the fourth consecutive year, UHN was recognized as one of Canada's Top 100 Employers. Recruiting and retaining the best human resources is critical so we can provide the best possible care to our patients and their families. We are very proud of this acknowledgement and continually strive to make UHN an attractive and rewarding work environment for staff.

This year will be one of significant change and opportunities in health care as the province's Local Health Integration Networks, or LHINS, encourage greater integration across the health care system. This is a welcome opportunity for UHN and I'm confident that as a result of our collective talents and energies, we will continue to achieve global impact in patient care, education and research.
