Nursing Informatics
Nursing Informatics (NI) is where
the leading edge of Nursing, technology, information science and communication
meet. It is a specialty
that integrates nursing science, computer science and information science to
manage and communicate data, information and knowledge in nursing practice.
The role of the NI team is to identify and represent nursing information
and knowledge requirements as new technologies are incorporated into nursing
practice. The NI Team also works with nurses practicing in a variety of
roles across the corporation to determine nursing requirements, clinical
content, and practice standards for Information Management Strategy and
other related initiatives. This means working with the Shared Information
Management Services (SIMS) team and nurses to make the best
decisions about the tools and how they are used to improve clinical outcomes
and patient satisfaction.
Nursing Informatics priorities include identifying and providing data & information
that nurses need as well as identifying
technology that supports nursing practice.
