UHN Makes Recommendations to Romanow Commission (June 21, 2002)
In its brief to the Romanow Commission on the Future of Health Care In Canada, June 21, 2002, UHN listed five recommendations the organization believes the federal and/or provincial governments should adopt to help sustain our health-care system. These include:
- Setting national standards for health-system access;
- Establishing multi-year, stable funding;
- Creating an environment to retain and attract health professionals;
- Creating incentives for and invesing in innovation;
- Segregating the management of health-care funding.
These final recommendations are the result of a three-day retreat that had more than 100 participants representing UHN's Board of Trustees and senior managers. In a earlier brief to the Commission, UHN also made recommendations around the setting of national performance systems, the creation of health information systems and funding for capital, operations and research.
