Telehealth Report to the UHN Community on 2003 Clinical Activity

The Telehealth Program at UHN has focussed on clinical consultations over Telehealth. The tertiary and quaternary nature of UHN make clinical implementation a tremendous benefit to the people we serve Icon: PowerPoint who live distant but need care at UHN.

In 2003, 225 patient consultations took place over the network. More than 80 clinicians at UHN have provided consultation or follow up visits to patients through telehealth. A number of programs have decided to wire their clinical areas so that the physicians and staff can provide consultations using a portable telehealth unit without having to leave their clinical area and go to the Telehealth studio.

All fee for service MD’s are reimbursed through the North Network our network partners who are funded by the Ministry of Health in Ontario for network operations and physician reimbursement.

In the UHN Telehealth Program, we believe that to give patients access you must also integrate, wherever possible, into the existing work patterns of care provision. The UHN approach is a new way of doing things in the telehealth community, but new ways develop when ‘exemplary patient care’ is the goal that you serve.
