We are recognized as a leading adopter of new laboratory technology. Examples include:
- MDS Autolab
- Electronic Crossmatching in blood bank
- Point of Care Testing
State of the Art Laboratory Information Systems
Our LIS team, together with laboratory staff and UHN information systems group, has created an enviromnent with:
- Seamless electronic interfaces with six hospitals
- Extensive use of barcode labeling enabling efficient data transfer and specimen tracking
- Results electronically transferred to Ulitcare, Meditech and other hospital information systems
- Innovative new approaches underway for point of care connectivity and web-based test results
Breadth and Depth of Expertise
TML's size gives us the advantage of offering a breadth and depth of laboratory expertise. Our labs include:
- Canada's largest hospital-based core biochemistry/hematology laboratory
- Canada's largest hospital-based microbiology laboratory which operates as a joint program with Mount Sinai Hospital
- Canada's largest hospital-based blood bank
- Regional centres of excellence in: histocompatibility, flow cytometry, cancer cytogenetics, molecular diagnostics, parasitology, and other sub-specialties
