What is Healing Beyond the Body?
Healing Beyond the Body is an exciting extension of volunteer services at Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH). It represents our hospital’s desire to augment professional services and extend the continuum of psychosocial care for our patients and their caregivers. This brings new opportunities for volunteers to contribute to patient care through expanded roles that allow them to offer enhanced emotional support and system guidance at every stage of the cancer journey.

The main goal of the program is to increase our hospital's ability to address the human side of life with cancer by increasing our focus on the psychological, emotional, social/interpersonal and practical impact of treatment. Using this as our focus, volunteers will be trained to offer psychosocial care in order to: help make the hospital experience less stressful, confusing and overwhelming; reduce barriers to patients’ participation in their own care; and increase self-management of the psychosocial impacts of this illness.
