Centre for Innovation in Complex Care (CICC)

Sherman Quan was born in Victoria British Columbia where he completed his undergraduate studies in the School of Health Information Science at the University of Victoria.  He moved to Toronto Ontario in 2003 to pursue his career in health informatics and joined the Department of Medicine at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in February 2004.  Under the mentorship of the late Dr. William J. Sibbald, former Physician-in-Chief for the Department of Medicine, he matured in his role as the Health Informatician at Sunnybrook and developed a mentality of “just do it” in an environment that has been slow to adopt technology for improving patient care.  In February of 2007, he accepted a role with the University Health network where he continues to apply his expertise in the application of information technology to improve patient care in a larger, more complex environment.  He works closely with both the clinical and IT groups, with a particular interest in improving clinical communication processes, the leading cause of medical errors.  He possesses extensive knowledge with both technology and clinical processes, understands the need to ensure solutions meet the needs of both the users and the organization, and thrives off a resilient personality that is required to address the challenges faced in Ontario’s complex healthcare system.  His drive to succeed lead to being recognized nationally in 2006 as the recipient of COACH’s Emerging Leader in Health Informatics award and the creation of the Centre for Innovation in Complex Care (CICC).
