High blood pressure - or hypertension - occurs when the blood pressure is above normal limits. High blood pressure may cause damage to the vessels and arteries of your major organs – the heart, the brain, the kidneys, and the eyes. The entire circulatory system is affected since it is difficult for the blood to travel from the heart to the major organs.
