These disorders include:
- Sleep Apnea which is a pause in your breathing pattern that lasts anywhere from 10 to 20seconds. During this time, the level of oxygen in your blood drops and then the breathing starts again, often with a snort or loud choking sound.
- Narcolepsy or excessive daytime sleepiness. When the brain is unable to properly regulate the cycles of sleep and wakefulness, people with narcolepsy begin to feel an overwhelming urge to sleep and may even fall asleep unexpectedly for periods last a few seconds or extend out to a few minutes.
- Parasomnias are physical acts that occur during sleep that often lead to awakening. These include walking while asleep, sometimes called somnambulism or talking during sleep, sometimes called somniloquy. Night terrors or body jerks are other examples of this condition.
- Other conditions treated are psychological and psychiatric sleep disorders; neurological sleep disorders and disorders of the circadian rhythm, that is the timing of sleep w ithin the 24-hour day
