Radiation Therapy Clinic
The Radiation Therapy department consists of two parts: the Radiation Therapy Planning Clinic and Radiation Therapy Treatment Clinic. The department provides consultation, treatment and follow-up for patients requiring radiation therapy for cancer.
Radiation therapy can be given externally by machines (external beam radiation) or internally by placing small amounts of radioactive materials into body cavities or tissues (brachytherapy).
Our services:
- Planning treatment using a CT simulator (a CT scanner with sophisticated computer software) to map the area for treatment
- Delivering treatment using sophisticated equipment, with careful checks and balances throughout the entire process
- Follow-up with radiation oncologists and/or their resident along with the RN Case Manager each week (arranged by the Radiation Therapist to coincide with your treatment time). This is an opportunity for patients to discuss problems and have prescriptions written, if necessary
- Providing education to patients to help them understand the radiation therapy process and how to manage side effects
