The University of Toronto's Hemoglobinopathy Program is Canada's referral centre for the comprehensive management of patients with hemoglobinopathies (blood disorders) such as thalassemia or sickle cell disease.
Our services:
- Tertiary (specialized) care, including transfusion and iron-chelating therapy, for individuals with thalassemia, sickle cell disease, and other prevalent disorders of hemoglobin
- Toronto is the largest centre within the North American Thalassemia Consortium, a U.S. National Institutes of Health-supported network of five North American centres that was recently funded to develop newer approaches to the therapy of this disorder.
