The registered nurse will conduct an interview to obtain your medical history. This information will be entered into a database, which is utilized by your health care team. Social or health issues such as high blood pressure, diabetes, chest pain, or lack of help at home would be communicated to the multidisciplinary team for further assessment, as necessary. The clinic nurses will provide you with information regarding your care before and after surgery, including preparation for your stay in hospital, overview of the surgical procedure, orientation to the unit and plans for your discharge. The Nurse Practitioner collaborates with other health professionals to
make sure that you are in the best possible emotional and physical readiness
for surgery. If necessary, the Nurse Practitioner facilitates the referral
of patients to other services within the hospital such as anesthesia,
cardiology, medicine, endocrine, hematology and radiology.
