There is parking available on the hospital grounds. It is comparable with parking lots within the surrounding area, however these rates are quite high and public transit may be a more economical consideration. Visiting hours are 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Some patients will be discharged the same day (consult the Pre-admission nurse). For others, discharge will be from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. on the discharge day. Any transportation arrangements should be made prior to this time. The patient will be expected to provide his or her own transportation home. Transport from the hospital in an ambulance is provided only when medically necessary. Patients from northern Ontario may be eligible for a Northern Health Travel Grant; consult your doctor before leaving. Northern Health Travel Grant or Workers Compensation documents must be brought to the hospital on the day of surgery. The hospital can help find accommodations for out of town patients (before or after their admittance) and/or their families in two ways. Firstly, UHN has negotiated lower rates of accommodation with a variety of hotels located close to the hospital (see the accommodation list below). Also, UHN provides convenient, inexpensive accommodation in the Residence. Located next to the hospital, it is connected to the hospital by an indoor tunnel. During the pre-admission visit prior to surgery, the social worker we will be happy to assist you in choosing and booking these accommodations For a list of accomodations close to the hospital, visit the UHN Accommodations page.
