Mission
To initiate, develop, facilitate, and promote excellence in research, education, policy and health service delivery for diseases and conditions that affect women's health.
Goals
To initiate interdisciplinary and interspeciality collaborations in research, education, policy and health service delivery projects that recognize the broad biological, psychological, social, economic and community determinants of health and disease.
Research
To identify, promote, conduct and disseminate research into diseases and conditions which are unique, more prevalent or more serious in women than in men or which are major causes of women's ill health nationally and internationally . To promote gender specific and gender comparison projects and to encourage analysis of databases for possible gender effects. To better understand the social determinants of health which affect women and to develop and test interventions and policy to improve them.
Education
To create, apply and disseminate new knowledge to the public and health professionals, for the well-being of women specifically pertaining to the prevention, epidemiology, course of disease, treatment, access to treatment, quality of life, prognosis of diseases and conditions that affect women. To help incorporate gender based biology and the social determinants of women's health into the curriculum of health professionals and academia locally, provincially, nationally and internationally .
Policy
To advocate that women are appropriately represented in biomedical/biobehavioural research as both subjects and researchers. To facilitate development and promotion of policy to improve women's health locally, provincially, nationally, and internationally.
Services
To advocate for and facilitate the development of services within the community and the hospital to enhance the exemplary and compassionate care of women. To build strategic alliances and infrastructure to develop and nurture an excellent women's health program. To use new technologies and knowledge for the benefit of women's health nationally and internationally .
