Patients' Lives Made Better

Campaign nears $500M goal -- with three months to go

"As of December 1, 2005, our total had surpassed $475 million, and the campaign is accelerating rapidly toward the $500 million goal,”
reported UHN Campaign Chair Bryce Douglas in a recent update.

The three foundations—Toronto General & Western Hospital Foundation, The Princess Margaret Hospital Foundation, and the Arthritis & Autoimmunity Research Centre Foundation--publicly launched the campaign in 2002, and aimed to raise $400 million by March 31, 2006. Remarkably, they surpassed this goal almost a year ahead of schedule, in May 2005.

With the growing demand for medical and research advancements, the foundations decided to stick with the campaign’s original 2006 end date, and extended the campaign goal to $500 million.

The campaign funds will be used to support leading clinicians and researchers at UHN, and to support Nursing and equipment. Among the many initiatives the campaign has brought to life are the Annie Fund for Nursing, the Lederman Palliative Care Unit, the Gamma Knife, and the Helliwell Centre for Medical Education. A significant portion of campaign proceeds are dedicated to endowed chairs, professorships and funds for excellence—opportunities that are essential to attracting outstanding healthcare professionals from across Canada and around the globe.
