Pain - A-Z Glossary

This is not an exhaustive list, but includes some of the terminology commonly used in the assessment and treatment of neuro-oncology disorders:

Acute Pain

Acute pain is a signal of tissue being damaged and it usually disappears when the injury
heals.

Chronic Pain

Chronic pain is any pain that lasts for more than six months or beyond the expected healing time.

Migraine

A disorder characterized by recurrent moderate to severe headaches that may be accompanied by dizziness, nausea, vomiting or extreme sensitivity to light and sound.

Neurologist

A physician who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders and diseases of the brain, spine and other parts of the nervous system.

Neuropathic Pain

Pain originating from the malfunctioning of the nervous system.
