Peter Munk Cardiac Centre

Cardiology involves the care of patients with complex heart problems, including arrhythmia and congenital heart disease. These problems can be life threatening, but advanced research and patient care are helping patients live longer — and improving their quality of life.

Many of the services offered are unique in Toronto, including a congenital cardiac clinic; cardiac assessment transplant clinic;; the Coronary Events and Rapid Treatment (CERT) program; and valve reconstruction.

In addition to offering these exemplary programs and services, we house an internationally recognized adult congenital heart disease (ACHD) program. The largest program of its kind in the world, it actively followed about 5,500 patients. Its care standards and research have helped advance ACHD care around the world.

Research and education in our cardiology programs help increase our knowledge and prepare future health-care professionals. Many of our research projects are patient-oriented, using new knowledge to improve patient care and outcomes. We train undergraduates, residents and fellows, many from around the world. Acute care nurse practitioners receive unique training in the CERT Program.
