Hand hygiene refers to removing or killing microorganisms on the hands of health care workers. This is achieved by using an alcohol based hand rub, or soap and water for visible soiling.
Hand hygiene compliance is measured:
- Before contact with a patient
- Before performing sterile procedures
- After possible or known contact with a body fluid
- After contact with a patient
