Comprehensive and Reliable Content

Each OIES title offers between 20 and 25 hours of specific and in-depth information on everything one needs to know about their cancer.

The comprehensive content, developed with hundreds of health care professionals, patients, and family members at the Hospital, aims to address a broad range of learning styles, computer experiences, abilities, literacy levels, and language skills exhibited by our diverse, multicultural patient population.

About your Cancer
This section covers cancer causes and risk factors, anatomy of the affected organs, different types of the particular cancer and useful statistics.

Prevention and Early Detection
In this section one will find information on screening, and how to reduce risk and recognize symptoms.

Diagnosis
This section contains information on cancer detection tests, staging and symptoms associated with every stage, as well as genetics that determine the likelihood of cancer.

Treatment
This section helps the user decide on treatment types and contains information on surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy as well as new drugs and therapies. Expected outcomes and side effects of each type of treatment are also offered.

Supportive Care
This section helps the patient and caregivers cope psychologically with their cancer. It offers advice on how to communicate with family and friends, on the use of community and support services, managing symptoms and side effects, choosing the right life style, diet and exercise, complementary and alternative therapies, as well as relaxation techniques.
