The Patient Education Research program utilizes several strategies to accomplish these objectives:

• A research strategy to expand our knowledge about patient education, through both basic and applied research, and to increase our ability to make effective use of that knowledge in key practical arenas.
• A graduate strategy to develop the next generation of researchers, scholars, and practitioners.
• A professional development strategy to provide highly trained professionals with a strong background in patient education.
• A patient education strategy to shift the culture of patient education in the UHN to conform with evidence-based healthcare and link patient education to health outcomes.
• A best practices strategy to develop evidence-based guidelines for patient education.
