Patient Education

Toronto General & Western Hospitals

Learning about a medical condition and its treatments can help you to make better decisions about your health care. It can also reduce the anxiety that often comes with illness.

The purpose of patient education is to help patients make informed decisions about their health and health care and to cope with their illness. We do this by:

The Patient Education Network helps staff at each of our hospitals develop high-quality, easy-to-understand health information. UHN clinics and departments can call on the Network for help to produce pamphlets, handouts and Web pages to educate patients and their families.

Our Team

When you come to the hospital, many different professionals will provide education, including nurses, dietitians, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, social workers, speech-language pathologists, pharmacists and technicians. Each is an expert in helping you to understand your health issues and address your needs.

To support these professionals, the Patient Education Network has a team of individuals working to provide the most current information in an easy-to-understand format.

We want our patients and families to be informed about their health and be able to communicate with their health-care team. We will work to provide you with current information to help you be an educated health care consumer. Keep watching for additional information and health-care tips.
