About Nursing

University Health Network, one of Canada's largest acute care teaching facilities, is affiliated with the University of Toronto. Located on three sites, Toronto General Hospital, Toronto Western Hospital and Princess Margaret Hospital, our programs and services are among the most advanced in the world. Our Focus of Care areas include the Krembil Neuroscience Centre, Medical and Community Care, Musculoskeletal Health and Arthritis, Princess Margaret Hospital Cancer Program, Peter Munk Cardiac Centre, Surgical and Critical Care, and Multi-Organ Transplant. We offer a full range of services with the exception of Maternal/Newborn and inpatient Pediatrics.

University Health Network has:

  • nearly 850 inpatient beds on 35 inpatient units across 3 sites
  • ambulatory visits that number greater than 800,000 annually
  • 4 large critical care units and 2 emergency departments across 2 sites
  • over 2500 nursing staff, of whom more than 30% are Baccalaureate prepared
  • more than 900 nursing students completing their clinical placements annually

Led by Vice President Professional Affairs and Chief Nurse Executive, Dr. Joy Richards, nurses are supported by a strong Nursing leadership team consisting of approximately 150 Nurse Managers, Directors, Advanced Practice Nurse Educators, Nursing Administration Coordinators, Nurse Coordinators, Nurse Clinicians and Advanced Practice Nurses.
