Canada's Top 100 Employers 2006

UHN among nation’s top 100 employers for third year

For the third year in a row, University Health Network has been selected as one of Canada’s top 100 employers by Medicorp Canada, the country’s largest publisher of job-hunting directories and guides. More than 1,200 employers applied to be included on this year’s list. UHN was one of only two hospitals ranked in the top 100, and the only Ontario hospital in that group. The final list will be published in Maclean’s magazine’s Oct. 24.

“This year’s top 100 employers are probably the most formidable competitors for human capital we’ve ever seen,” said Anthony Meehan, president of Mediacorp. According to the publishers, organizations that have managed to stay on the list have been able to “actively improve areas where we previously noted some weaknesses. These employers continue to improve their working conditions and benefits, raising the bar for others in their industry.”

This year the Top 100 Employers were selected by a blue-chip panel of university professors, chaired by Professor Emeritus Daniel A. Ondrack of the Rotman School at the University of Toronto. Selection was based on an assessment of the physical workplace and atmosphere, benefits, vacation and time off, as well as communications, performance management and professional development. Charitable efforts and community involvement were also considered.

“It is an outstanding achievement that we made the top 100 list for the third year in a row,” said Emma Pavlov, Vice President of Human Resources. “UHN’s ongoing commitment to continually improve and strive for excellence helped us achieve this prestigious award.”

“I’d like to congratulate everyone at UHN for contributing toward making UHN a great place to work,” said Bob Bell, President and CEO. “I’d also like to thank Human Resources and our managers for creating the workplace environment and people practices that lead to this achievement.”
