Psychiatry

What is Psychiatry?

Psychiatry comes from two Greek words — psyche meaning mind or soul and iatreia meaning cure. It is the medical specialty concerned with the diagnosis and treatment of mental, emotional or behavioural disorders in people who are medically ill or suffering from anxiety, depression, bipolar and schizophrenia. Psychiatrists treat people using medications, psychotherapy, behavioural counseling and other approaches. The goal of Psychiatry is to help people change the way they act and feel.
