The Toronto Hospital HIV/AIDS Clinic
Launches
Comprehensive Internet Website
(March 20, 1997, Toronto) The Immunodeficiency Clinic at The Toronto Hospital has launched a comprehensive website to respond to the identified needs of patients and referring physicians for more up-to-date information about HIV/AIDS.
By visiting on-line at http://www.tthhivclinic.com "surfers" will be able to quickly find out about clinical services and referrals, ongoing research studies, educational programs and how to obtain new patient information packages. Concise information sheets on over 60 HIV-related symptoms and medications and on how to access and seek patient reimbursement for needed drugs will also be available for viewing.
Viewers will also be able to read interesting new articles on HIV in the clinic's newsletter, Positive Times, and will have the opportunity to communicate their questions and concerns to the clinic through a confidential e-mail service. "We believe this communication link will be a particular boon to patients who are 'shut-ins', their loved ones as well as doctors who are practicing in more remote areas," says Dr. Irving Salit, Medical Director of the Immunodeficiency Clinic at The Toronto Hospital. "We invite feedback from all interested Canadians visiting our site. We want to ensure that we are providing the information you need to best manage your own or your patient's care. We also want to indicate how to fully utilize our clinical services." Patients and community health care professionals who do not have access to a computer are free to "surf the web" in the AIDS Resource Centre at 101 College Street, ground floor, room 318.
The Immunodeficiency Clinic is one of Canada's largest outpatient HIV/AIDS clinic with more than 900 active cases. It is easily accessible by subway at University Avenue and College Street and is located in Toronto's downtown core. Services provided by the clinic include medical monitoring and treatment of HIV/AIDS complications. Counselling dealing with related psychosocial, nutritional, rehabilitative, pharmacological and spiritual needs are also offered.
