Shared
Information Management Services (SIMS)
is a department of UHN responsible for the complete spectrum of information
management activities. The number of staff within SIMS currently exceeds
125 and investments in information management technology exceed industry
standards. At few other places does health information technology move
so rapidly, interconnect so strongly, or touch so many lives. SIMS is
facing the challenges of healthcare head on by continually finding ways
to improve our patient care through the use of advanced technology.
The dynamic and innovative spirit of our team is shaping the face of
health care information management in Canada. Each member of our team
sees, first hand, the difference they make in the lives of those at
the University Health Network.
Over the next 3
years, SIMS will be leading the transformation of health care in Ontario
by implementing an Electronic Patient Record (EPR) Strategy consisting
of 5 major opportunities: migrating to an electronic patient chart (E-Chart
program), providing better support for clinical decision making (Clinical
Decision Support Program), facilitating integration with other external
healthcare providers (Community Integration Program), supporting research
strategies (Research Informatics Program) and implementing enterprise-wide
resource management (Resource Management & Scheduling Program).
