NEUROPSYCHOLOGY OF SYSTEMIC LUPUS ERYTHEMATOSUS

Study Rationale:
As most patients are aware, SLE can be associated with several neuropsychological difficulties such as poor concentration, memory loss, and impairments in learning.  The standard tests that are currently used to assess neuropsychological problems are very time consuming (more than 4 hours).  The purpose of this study is twofold. First, we hope to be able to design a shorter battery of tests that can be routinely used and also to examine the neuropsychological function of patients with SLE over the course of their disease.

Study Design:
Patients who agree to participate in this study will be asked to complete an evaluation of neuropsychological function on four occasions over a 4 month period.  The first session will last approximately 5 hours.  Subsequent session will take 1.5 hours.    This assessment will be carried out by a Toronto Hospital psychologist.  At the end of the assessment patients will be provided with feedback regarding the results of the assessment.
