Emergency Medicine

UHN's Emergency Medicine services assist more than 65,000 patients each year at two of our sites: Toronto General Hospital and Toronto Western Hospital. Providing exemplary care to patients is our emergency medicine team, consisting of more than 30 physicians and 100 staff — including nurses, Patient Care Assistants (PCAs) and ward clerks. In addition, our team draws on the expertise of other UHN units and professionals such as social workers, crisis workers, pharmacists and nurse practitioners.

What we do:

  • Provide expert evaluation and assessment of ambulatory (walk-in) patients and patients who arrive by ambulance
  • Arrange for follow-up care
  • Provide ongoing training for house staff
  • Conduct research to improve emergency medicine treatment
