Redevelopment
and Renovation -- Project 2003
University Health
Network embarked on a precedent setting plan in 1998. The Toronto General
and the Toronto Western Hospitals would undergo a major redevelopment
initiative with the goal of changing the face of healthcare. Project
2003, the master plan for the renovation of both campuses is well on
its way, toward the development of superior facilities to foster excellence
in patient care delivery.
Specifically, the
magnitude of facility redevelopment proposed by Project 2003 will revolutionize
healthcare as we once knew it. The most up-to-date surgical and intensive
care suites have been designed and world-class ambulatory centres and
research facilities are being constructed. These plans will contribute
to improved patient-flow, access, activities and cost effectiveness.
Notwithstanding
all of the positive changes that have been occurring, we do recognize
that many patients and visitors might feel a bit overwhelmed during
construction. We do urge visitors who are unfamiliar with the renovations
to call in advance. Speak with department representatives to be sure
that you enter the hospital through designated areas. Please continue
to follow signs and postings around the hospitals and feel free to ask
UHN staff to help you out along the way. We thank you for your patience
during construction, as we build towards a greater hospital for all.
Project 2003 is
an essential program that will only serve to benefit our collective
well-being in terms of patient care and research. The process of redevelopment
is an essential component of enhancing the future of healthcare in Toronto.
While the renovation
process continues, our goal of increasing the benefits that we may all
reap is becoming more and more of a reality. We are looking forward
to the completion of the overall redevelopment of both Toronto General
and Toronto Western Hospitals.
For all of us. For
our future.
