The University Health Network Libraries offer
a number of services to meet the information needs of UHN staff, physicians
and students.
Document Delivery
This service is only available
to the UHN staff physicians and students. Clients may request books and
journals from the library at the other division at no cost. Turnaround
time is usually the next day.
Items not available in the UHN libraries
may be requested from other locations. For each item borrowed there is
a flat fee, plus any additional cost charged by the lending library. Materials
usually arrive within three to four days. Requests can be made in person
by filling out a request form, or by telephone.
Please provide as much information as possible.
For non-University Health Network staff,
document delivery is available through HealthSearch.
Literature Searching
The library offers literature
searches on all online databases. Printouts are ready for pickup within
24 hours.
SDI searches
An SDI (Selective Dissemination
of Information) is a saved computer search strategy which is executed
against the latest database update. An SDI is an excellent way to monitor
the newest development in your area of interest.
An SDI strategy is run against our in-house
Medline (or other databases) on CD-ROM. Your search can be emailed to
you or a print version sent via hospital internal mail. We can also help
setting up PubMed SDI search.
Training on Medline
Group training sessions on the hospital's
OVID databases are held in the University Health Network libraries for
UHN staff and students.
Please call 340-3429 (TGH), 603-5750 (TWH)
or 946-4482 (OCI/PMH) to reserve a time.
Internet
training
The library offers basic Internet training
for a fee. This course is available to UHN and affiliated staff. To register,
please contact the hospital Information Systems at (416) 340-5091 or (416)
340 4800 x 6936.
Photocopying facilities
Photocopiers are available
for use by clients at all sites. Copicards can be used at each site. UHN
medical students, clinical clerks, and PGYs are entitled to free copies.
Hospital and medical staff may purchase Copicards in various denominations.
Charges are 10 cents per copy.
