Janet BeedThe Toronto General Hospital is a unique Canadian Institution serving the Canadian community since 1847. Drawing upon our history of leadership, innovation and a pioneering spirit, our staff continue to push forward in developing new and progressive ways to help patients and their families. More recent achievements include the world's first successful single and double lung transplants; innovative surgical procedures to correct congenital heart defects; and being one of the leading centers in the world for complex head and neck re-constructive surgery. While the buildings that surround and support us are a reminder of our great history, our new construction keeps our focus on the future and all its possibilities. Research is a way of life at Toronto General Hospital. Labs, clinical research and applied research support us in pushing the frontiers to improve patient care.

The staff, physicians and volunteers of the Toronto General Hospital direct their talents to the specific and complex programs associated with Transplantation, Cardiac Disease, Surgical Oncology and Advanced Medical and Surgical care. Our Emergency Department, Intensive Care Units and Diagnostic Imaging Department provide the breadth of support required by these complex programs to help patients in their fight against disease.

Staff who have studied and trained at the Toronto General Hospital advance to lead renowned health care facilities, research institutes and colleges and universities worldwide. Others choose to meet the needs of patients in remote parts of the world. Teaching and developing our future care givers, teachers and scientists is our commitment to our community.

With over 4000 employees, the Toronto General Hospital is one of the largest employers in Toronto. Individuals of many educational levels and cultural backgrounds combine to make a unique and diverse team committed to ensuring that patients and their families are nurtured and supported as they meet their healthcare challenges.
