The Privacy Office is committed to establishing standards
of privacy, confidentiality and data security to protect
the personal health information of UHN patients. The
Office consists of a Corporate Privacy Officer (CPO)
and a privacy team that is educated and trained to provide
privacy guidance in the healthcare field. We were established
at UHN to be a resource for privacy information, for
policy development, including the new UHN privacy policy
and for educating all UHN staff, patients and visitors
on privacy issues.
Educating UHN about our Privacy
Policy
We continually conduct privacy training sessions to
explain the Privacy policy principles to staff, volunteers,
and students. These sessions:
- Provide more information about the draft Ontario
privacy legislation and how it may affect UHN
- Explain the UHN Privacy Policy
- Present practical tips for handling common data
protection situations
- Answer questions about privacy and patient confidentiality
issues
Each session is approximately 30 minutes in length
and is conducted on-site to avoid disrupting patient
care.
